Yasoo Health Ltd. is awarded a research grant from the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation for its cancer chemoprevention research program
February 20, 2007 -Yasoo Health Ltd (Yasoo), a subsidiary of Yasoo Health Inc., reported today that it has been awarded a research grant from the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation (RPF, www.research.org.cy) to support its research and development work on the identification and development of chemo-preventive products for the prevention and treatment of prostate cancer.
The grant, worth in excess of $145.000 over the next two years, builds on the existing collaboration between Yasoo and the Universities of Athens and Cyprus. Over half a million new cases of prostate cancer are diagnosed every year world wide, and the cancer is the direct cause of over 200,000 deaths. More worryingly, the incidence of the disease is increasing with a rise of 1.7 per cent over 15 years. Yasoo's scientists have identified a number of lead compounds that have anti-cancer activity in in vitro cell systems. "We have a number of exciting lead compounds with significant chemo-preventive and anti-cancer activity. This latest award will support a battery of experiments that can help develop these compounds into safe and effective commercial products" stated Dr Konstantinos Papas, Medical Director of Yasoo and one of the lead researchers in the project. Research focuses on both natural and synthetic compounds isolated and / or synthesized by Yasoo.
